The largest presentation of KOO JEONG A’s work in France to date, LAND OF OUSSS [KANGSE] brings together a major body of works spanning from 2007 to the present.
Showcasing sculptures, an olfactory installation, and a series of phosphorescent paintings, as well as more intimate ink drawings, the exhibition extends KOO’s enduring exploration of movement, weightlessness, levitation, and voids.
Using both imperceptible gestures and immersive, large-scale installations, KOO’s practice constructs personal cosmologies that dissolve conventional perceptions of time, space, and materiality. The universe of “OUSSS” defines an enigmatic space of innate connections between telluric and cosmic matters and explores how intimately entangled we are with the invisible forces that shape our reality.
KOO JEONG A
KOO JEONG A incorporates inter-subjective phenomena, digital features and timely imaginaries into sculpture, painting, film, animation, sound and scent, to reinvent the architectural space. The artist’s site-specific reconfigurations open up narrative portals, where various media are combined with natural elements, playing with the idea of correlations.
KOO has participated in various international exhibitions including La Biennale di Venezia, Liverpool Biennale, Gwangju Biennale, The Jewish Museum (New York, USA), The Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA), Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris, France), and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea). The artist was a finalist for the Hugo Boss Prize in 2002, won the Hermès Korea Prize for contemporary art in 2005, and was named as 2016 Artist of the Year by the Korean Cultural Centre UK.
