From Historical Preservation to Sustainable Building: Earth, Plaster, Stone, Soils, Sediments, Reuse, and Innovation
Invitation–only professional day

Since its creation in 2004, LUMA has placed a strong emphasis on environmental protection. Working with a network of local and international experts, we strive to inspire and implement change and share the story of a distinctive and active bioregion through our artistic programs, Atelier LUMA, and projects such as LUMA Eco Days and Environmental History.
The LUMA Eco Days program focuses on projects of global environmental and social significance with a local impact.
The LUMA Eco Days – Bioregional Assembly invites participants to explore the new dynamics of bioregional sustainable building through a professional day of discussions, presentations, and networking at the Parc des Ateliers, designed as a platform for shaping the world of tomorrow. This event serves as an exercise in balancing ecological, social, and economic imperatives.
Last year, the theme From the Field to Sustainable Building was explored through materials, products, and processes emblematic of the bioregion and rich in externalities (rice straw, sunflower, algae, microalgae, and other fibre-based materials).
This year’s program will focus on: From Historical Preservation to Sustainable Building: Earth, Plaster, Stone, Soils, Sediments, Reuse, and Innovation is structured around three interdependent axes, featuring presentations and feedback from twenty-five complementary projects and achievements:
- First Axis: Materials
- Second Axis: Ecosystems
- Third Axis: Architectural Expression
With the work of Atelier LUMA and other public and private experts, as well as contributions from Architecture and Landscape Architecture Schools and the Tour du Valat, the territory has been mapped to assess the potential of the Pays d’Arles as a sustainable region.
Across this region, many public and private stakeholders have committed to ambitious renovation and construction programs. These endeavours should incorporate materials that promote ecological and economic balance, as well as practices of social inclusion and training, all within the new national and European legislative framework. Each resource and its transformation can be supported by local experts and specialists from the broader bioregion—the greater South and Mediterranean countries—considering urban and peri-urban areas, wetlands, agricultural zones and woodlands (including regional and national parks), and mountainous regions.
This assembly day will be an opportunity to explore these issues through presentations, feedback sessions, and discussions on concrete projects.
