Wen-Ying Tsai

Wen-Ying Tsai was an American pioneer of cybernetic sculpture, kinetic and light art, celebrated for his dynamic use of electric motors, stainless steel rods, stroboscopic light, and audio feedback control. His works were featured in landmark exhibitions of the era, including Cybernetic Serendipity (1968) at London’s ICA and The Machine as Seen at the End of the Mechanical Age (1968-1969) at MoMA,New York. Tsai’s art was later shown at the Centre Pompidou, the Tate, Museum Haus Lange, the Venice Biennale, and the National Art Museum of China, among many others. As one of the first Chinese-born artists to gain international recognition in the 1960s, he inspired generations of artists worldwide.
