One weekend per month, from October to April, LUMA Arles offers a series of screenings followed by discussions at the Parc des Ateliers, with free admission upon reservation. Screenings specially designed for young audiences are part of the program.
These films will explore the relationships between humans and non-humans, interspecies relations, mythologies, and the natural world.
Focusing on a different theme each month, these sessions are part of a proposal that also includes exchanges with speakers, researchers, filmmakers, and the audience, on how these films contribute to changing our perceptions.
Free admission to screenings, upon reservation.
October Theme: The Moon
This month’s program offers a multifaceted exploration of the Moon — from historical archives (To the Moon), to children’s stories (Mune: Guardian of the Moon), and even the lens of conspiracy theories (Dark Side of the Moon).
Friday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m.
To the Moon by Tadgh O’Sullivan
Ireland | 2020 | 1h16

To the Moon is a collage film, a homage to the Moon, composed of international archival footage and images shot by renowned cinematographers, interwoven with literary fragments. The film revisits the imagery of cinema history where the Moon takes center stage: tales of love and madness, songs of longing and loss, dreams of innocence, and nightmares of colonialism.

France | 2002 | 52 min
French
And what if it was just a huge fraud started by the two superpowers? The precursor to take news? Director William Karel has looked into the United States’ relationship with the image, the cinema and their ability to create a “spectacle”. Which story could better lend itself to this view than the conquest of space, a war of images and spectacle above all else?
Awards:

2005 – Images en bibliothèques: Supported by the National Commission for Media Library Selection
Following the screening, a discussion will be held with Elsa De Smet, PhD in Art History and Head of Audiences and Cultural Engagement at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, and Olivier Berné, Research Director at CNRS. The conversation will be moderated by Martin Guinard, Curator at LUMA Arles.
