Since 2008, Carsten Höller has been creating hotel rooms at the heart of museums, where visitors can sleep, whether for a nap or an overnight stay. In this interview, he reflects on Dream Hotel Room #1: Dreaming of Flying with Flying Fly Agarics, designed in collaboration with MIT researcher Adam Haar. More than just a place to rest, this immersive installation is designed to inspire dreams of flight. In a circular, dimly lit room, a moving bed simulates flight, while a mushroom floats from the ceiling and a voice guides the sleeper into a state of semi-consciousness. Everything is orchestrated to encourage a lucid dream, on the border between reality and imagination.
