Josèfa Ntjam is an artist. Interested in the idea of speculation, she has been developing for several years a work of fictions aiming at deconstructing the great narratives at the origin of hegemonic discourses on the notions of origin, identity, and race.
In December 2022, Josèfa Ntjam performed "Conversation with Mami Wata #2", an aquatic deity, sometimes referred to as a mermaid, common in Voodoo cults.
In this conversation, she discusses the themes that make up this work: What role does science fiction play in her work? Why is the notion of inter-species relationships omnipresent?
