CO2 emissions continue to increase on the planet. In addition, agricultural, artisanal and industrial activities release nutrient-rich effluents that create eutrophication phenomena leading to the suffocation of ecosystems. Algae feed on CO2, nitrogen and phosphate, and can also absorb certain polluting metals. Strategies of algal cooperation are being implemented, which aim to reproduce the recycling logic of natural ecosystems. What are the challenges of pollution treatment in rural areas in particular? What are the limits of bioremediation?

This roundtable examines two examples of ongoing research projects exploring the potential of algae for bioremediation and their implementation in rural areas.
